Welcome Alex Ratter.  Our new Head Brewer started today.

    This is our Press Release

Alex Ratter who started in his new post with Nelion Ridley today joins from Mighty Oak Brewing Company in Maldon, Essex where he has been Head Brewer for nearly 18 years.  During this time he has brewed beers which have won a multitude of industry awards including the most prestigious CAMRA prize – ‘Champion Beer of Britain’ for their Oscar Wilde Mild in 2011.

Bishop Nick won SILVER OVERALL at CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain 2017 awards at Olympia for their leading brand Ridley’s Rite and the 20 barrel brewery in East Street is leaping from strength to strength with a well-established range of core beers and a Limited Edition selection of cask and bottled ales to suit all tastes and seasons.

Nelion Ridley says “Alex is an exceptional brewer with a fantastic reputation and comes from one of the region’s leading breweries.  We look forward to embracing his passion for brewing good beer and his considerable experience as we launch into this new chapter for Bishop Nick.”

Ratter who has now left Mighty Oak brewery adds “After achieving so much with one company I felt eager to explore new challenges with a young, vibrant, growing and forward-looking brewery, so when the opportunity to work at Bishop Nick arose, it was not one that I could turn down.  I'm very much looking forward to working with Nelion and Libby Ridley and the Bishop Nick team to further their success and expansion in future years!"

With Alex Ratter supervising all aspects of the brewing process, Bishop Nick will continue to offer their permanent list of ales and the new Head Brewer will undoubtedly contribute ideas and new recipes to compliment the current styles.
